[dropcap]E[/dropcap]l presidente de los Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, entregó este martes a 21 personas la Medalla de la Libertad, el más elevado honor civil que existe en el país para quienes contribuyen «a la seguridad o los intereses nacionales de EEUU, la paz mundial o significativos empeños culturales o de otro tipo públicos y privados».

Obama condecoró este martes a personalidades como Robert De Niro, Robert Redford, Tom Hanks, Ellen DeGeneres, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar o Diana Ross.

En sus ocho años en la Casa Blanca ha entregado 123 de estas medallas, más que ninguno de sus antecesores desde que John F. Kennedy las creó en 1963. Y ha dejado pequeño el récord anterior de Ronald Reagan, que dio 101 medallas.
