El video de un oso polar desnutrido en la isla de Baffin, en el Ártico canadiense, se ha convertido en trending topic en las redes sociales.

El clip fue divulgado en la cuenta de Instagram del fotógrafo de National Geographic y co-fundador de la fundación del Sea Legacy, Paul Nicklen.

“Mi equipo y yo nos aguantamos las ganas de llorar al ver a este oso polar muriendo. Es una escena demasiado desgarradora que aún me atormenta, pero sé que necesitamos compartir tanto lo bello como lo descorazonador si queremos romper los muros de la apatía. Así es el hambre. Los músculos se atrofian. No hay energía. Es una muerte lenta y dolorosa”, indicó Nicklen en el pie del clip, que ya cuenta con más de 1 millón de vistas.

La grabación muestra a un oso polar esquelético con pelaje amarillento y buscando algo de comer. “Cuando los científicos dicen que los osos polares se habrán extinguido en cien años, pienso en toda la población de 25,000 osos muriendo de esta forma. Si la tierra continúa calentándose, perderemos a los osos y todos los ecosistemas polares. Este oso no era viejo y seguramente murió horas o días después de este momento”, agregó.

Si bien algunos cibernautas optaron por comentar sobre los efectos del calentamiento global, otros escépticos señalaron que quizás el oso estaba enfermo o herido.
